The Nutcracker
Tonight we headed into the theatre for The Nutcracker, performed by the Casey Philharmonic Orchestra — and because Fern is one of the violinists, it all carried an extra shimmer of excitement.
This is an orchestra that loves to stretch itself. They don’t just play beautifully; they experiment, collaborate, and break the expected boundaries. Last time we watched them perform, actors shared the stage with the musicians. This time, for The Nutcracker, they were joined by ballet dancers and a choir — music, movement, and voices woven together into one living story.
It was fantastic.
We had front-row seats, which meant we could see Fern (and her friends) clearly — bows rising and falling, focus etched on young faces, joy quietly humming beneath the discipline. From that close, the whole performance felt immersive, like being drawn inside the music rather than simply listening to it.

The evening was soaked in wonder. The kind that makes you sit a little taller, breathe a little deeper, and feel grateful for the gift of beauty shared so generously.
After the final applause, we collected Fern and drifted back into the foyer to greet friends — all of us still buzzing, voices animated, cheeks flushed with pride and delight. Then, as these things so often go, we ended up at Maccas: a quick bite, sundaes all round, laughter spilling over plastic tables.

We came home full — not just of ice cream, but of the deep contentment that comes from a night well lived.

Fern has one more matinee tomorrow. We’ll let her sleep in a little, then gently wake her to do it all over again.
And honestly? What a joy it is to watch your child take their place in something beautiful — and play their part so fully.
